We are finally heading out on our big trip! Deas’s first goal was to get west of the Mississippi as fast as possible. We left Georgia on Monday, and had one last service appointment that afternoon, so didn’t actually hit the road until 4:00. We drove for a couple of hours and spend the night in a Costco parking lot in Birmingham. (You can park for free in Costco, Wal-Mart, and Cracker Barrel parking lots, but this particular spot cost us about $1000, thanks for a shopping trip at Costco that included a new camera for me! Yay!)
The next day we drove a long 9 hours to Little Rock, AR. We arrived around 7:00 and this time spend the night in a Wal-Mart parking lot. This trip wasn’t really starting out like I had envisioned!
Our original plan was to do another couple of long days until we hit NM, but after that 9-hour day we decided to spend a few days in AR instead. Wednesday morning we toured the Clinton Presidential Library, which was beautiful and very interesting. When my parents saw on Facebook that we went there, they immediately assumed that it was my idea and not my Republican-loving husband’s. However, it really was all Deas’s idea.
(Pics taken with my new Nikon!)
The tour included a 20-minute movie about Clinton’s history and presidency. It was very well done and actually pretty moving. When it was over, Deas was sniffling a little bit and said “Wow – that was really good.” I couldn’t believe that Deas was so moved by the film and told him so! He, however, is insisting that it was just his allergies. Hmmm….you be the judge.
After the library we drove an hour to Hot Springs National Park, where we are staying for a few days.
Tom and I loved the Clinton Library. We were there when it first opened as we were both C
linton fans.
Great Stuff Team Nealy! Looking forward to more stories and following you all on your adventure! Safe Travels!
I knew Deas was a Democrat at heart. I bet he has a picture of Obama in his wallet.
Welcome to “Oh The Places They Go!” We are just coming up on the end of our third year of fulltiming. We are having the time of our life and see no end to this journey in the near future.
Enjoy your first trip!! Travel safely!
