We’ve seen a lot of mountains on this trip so far. And while I love the mountains, I was seriously getting the itch for some beach time. Deas and I have lived at the beach in Florida for the past two years, and the surf and sand were calling my name. We had been experiencing glorious blue skies inland, so we booked a couple of reservations and headed to the coast.
Well, the Washington coast had a surprise in store for us. Gone were the blue skies and sunny days! Instead, we were greeted by overcast skies and lots of fog. In hindsight, I guess it was very appropriate weather for the Pacific Northwest.
Our first stop was the Pacific Beach State Park, where we had a great site with ocean views.

We only spent a couple of nights there, but we did get a peak of some blue skies on our last day.
Our next stop was Cape Disappointment State Park, which is an odd name, but a beautiful park on the southwestern tip of Washington. We had a great site with a huge sitting area and picnic table. There are two lighthouses in the park, miles and miles of beach, and lots of hiking and biking trails.

For our last stop we moved to Andersen’s RV Park which was just a few miles north in the cute little town of Long Beach WA. We spent two nights there and we were a 2-minute walk from the beach.
Thanks to the power of Facebook, we found out that our friends Jason and Nikki Wynn of Gone with the Wynns were staying nearby also, so we able to spend a few nights with them. We had them over to our RV one night for a dinner of steamer clams and dungeness crab. Jason and Nikki are so much fun and we loved hanging out with them – they’re also a wealth of knowledge about RV’ing! We’re hoping to meet up with them again down the road.

Steamers and crabs are precisely the reason we are headed that way in a few weeks. Glad to see you liked Cape Disappointment a friend of mine raves about that park.
We’re planning to get our fill of steamers and crabs ourselves! We’ll be in Oregon most of August, probably some of September too. So let us know when you make it down this way. If we’re still here we’ll have to meet up.
There is a great RV resort in Newport, OR. We love it there. The NW has had a lot of overcast this summer, and we are only in the 70’s here in San Jose, some overcast days, too. We don’t get hot summers like we used to do when we first moved here – we need to get up to Placerville and warm up!
