Grand Teton National Park Part IV – Jackson

One of the nice things about Grand Teton National Park is its close proximity to a very cool city – Jackson, WY. It’s only about a 15 minute drive from the campground so we drove in a few times to check it out.

One of our first stops was the Snake River Brewing Company. The beer was really good – Deas said it’s one of the best IPAs he’s ever had, and I really enjoyed my hefeweizen. We sat outside the deck and had some yummy pizza along with the beer.

In the parking lot there was a very large piece of beer-making equipment (that I don’t know the name of – help me out if you do!), and it was covered with all kinds of stickers. The area where we live in Florida is referred to as 30A, so named for the county highway that runs right through all of the communities. All through the south it’s a common site to see 30A stickers, and we just happened to have a few of them with us in our car. We asked permission to add a sticker to the collection, and Deas put me on his shoulders so we could put the sticker in a prominent spot. A local guy was nice enough to snap the picture for us.

As Deas had me on his shoulders, he looked down and saw another very familiar sticker. Our friends Sean and Kristy (Long Long Honeymoon) love Jackson and Grand Teton, and apparently they had added their own sticker as well!

The downtown Jackson area has lots of restaurants and shops centered around the main square. And we had to get the obligatory shot in front of the horn gates.

We found a great walking trail for the dogs – just south of town there is a levy that runs right alongside the Snake River, and you can walk for miles along it. We saw a moose and several people going down the river in rafts.

One afternoon we drove over the Teton Pass into Idaho. And surprise, surprise – found ourselves enjoying the views and brews at Grand Teton Brewing Company.

The pass goes up to 8431 feet in elevation, and there was a lot of snow up there!

Our stay in Grand Tetons has been a highlight of the trip. Next up is 10 days in Yellowstone!
