While in Bar Harbor we are staying at the Narrows Too Campground. We chose this park for one reason and one reason only – because that’s where Nancy & Betsy were staying! Since we’re staying for a month, we ponied up for a waterfront site. The site was designed to be a back-in site, but to take advantage of the view we pulled straight in.
The tides here are huge and it’s been so interesting to watch it come in and out every day. Both pictures below are from our site on the same day – the first at 9:45 am and the second at 3:45 pm.
One night there was absolutely no wind, and the surface of the water was like glass. In the twilight you could see the shapes of the rocks beneath the water.
One afternoon we took a drive down to Bass Harbor and had lunch at Thurston’s Lobster Pound. We both had crab rolls and sat outside sipping on beers enjoying this view.
We drove around the area for a bit, and everywhere we looked the scenes were quintessential Maine.
We’ve been eating lots of lobster in restaurants, but one thing we really wanted to do was buy our own and cook it at ourselves. Betsy and Nancy are experts in this area, so they bought some for us we had a lobster cook out at our site. I’ll admit the thought of cooking live lobsters still makes me a little squeamish. Deas and Nancy however seemed to get some pleasure out of playing with these poor little creatures that we about to become our delicious dinner. We also made some new friends this week – Corey and Jen of Jeep Gypsies – and they joined us for this fun evening.
We’re still taking lots of hikes and walks in the park, and Nancy and Betsy usually join us on the days when they’re not working.
One of the most popular places in Acadia is Cadillac Mountain, which at 1,528 point is the highest point on the Atlantic seaboard. It’s a famous place to watch the sunrise, but since the sun rises at 4:30 here I haven’t quite been able to get myself out of bed that early. You can either hike or drive to the top of the mountain – so far we’ve only done the drive. Even without the pretty colors of a sunrise, it’s still a pretty great view.
We are so enjoying our time in Bar Harbor. It’s such a beautiful area and it’s been awesome being able to spend so much time with our friends. And we still have another week to go!

Looks like a great place to spend a month and it’s hard to beat those home cooked lobsters. Can’t remember if it was last year or the previous, but the I remember the price of fresh lobster had dropped way down, is that still the case.
The prices are about $7/pound right now if you buy the lobster from a pound. Everyone keeps telling us the prices will go down as the summer goes on though. We’re leaving for Canada in a few days but will be back in Maine in August so I’ll be curious to see what the price is then!
