We’re wrapping up a 4-night stay and the wonderful Santa Fe Skies RV Park, which was recommended by our friends Sean and Kristy (www.longlonghoneymoon.com.) The park has a great view of the mountains, a nice walking trail, and a fenced in dog park for the pups to get out some energy. During our stay, we took several trips into town. We did most of our exploring on foot, and visited the farmer’s market, saw several lovely churches, had some yummy meals, and wandered through outdoor art galleries on Canyon Road.

We had two celebrity sightings while we were in Santa Fe! On Saturday we were at the same restaurant as Neil Patrick Harris, of How I Met Your Mother and Doogie Houser. And on Monday, we saw Lyle Lovett! Deas even went up to him and shook his hand. Sadly I was too starstruck each time to get any decent pictures.
So, on to the canine craziness. When we left them in the RV on Saturday, we returned to hear an alarm going off. We quickly discovered that someone had managed to step on the air brake release. Thank goodness we were on a level site! So, to solve that problem, the next time we left, I put an upside-down tupperware container over the air brake release so they couldn’t step on it again. We thought it was fool-proof (or should I say dog-proof), but we were wrong. On our drive back to the RV park on Monday, I got a phone call from an amused RV neighbor saying that our left blinker was on. We were only minutes away and knew that the dogs had turned on the blinker by stepping on or pushing the blinker lever, but we were confident they hadn’t gotten to the air brake. Wrong again! Not only head they turned on the blinker AND released the air brake, they had also turned on the fans on the windshield, and lowered the shade on the windshield. I’m thinking we need to be careful not to leave the keys laying around – if they continue like this, next thing they’ll do is figure out how to crank up the engine!
Not sure if you’ve solved this problem yet with your dogs releasing the air brake but they sell, and I’m sure with a trip to the hardware store you could make one, something that goes between the air brake and the base. That way their is no chance of it being released. Here’s a sample of what I’m talking about….http://absolutebrake.com/. I would think you could go to the hardware store and buy a small piece of PVC or pipe of some sort and just cut one side of it so it could slip into the air brake plunger. I’m just catching up on your blog and thought I’d mention this in case this is still happening to you 🙂
I have heard about that brake thing – we should probably look into it. For now we’re just placing a small plastic storage container upside-down over all of the controls. That seems to work so far, but it would be nice to have an extra level of security on the brake!
Better Get them dogs a licence or a permit for driving!!!! My dog loved to sleep in the driver side captain’s chair in our van conversion because their was just not enough room on the bed!
