In November, when we arrived back home in Florida after our 6-month trip, we weren’t sure what our next step would be. We put the RV up for sale, but admittedly didn’t try too terribly hard to sell it. It didn’t sell, and now here we are a mere 4 months later…and we’re getting ready to hit the road again! I’m excited about the trip, but I’ll confess that I shed a few tears over the idea of leaving this little town in Florida that I love so much. As much as I enjoyed our last trip, the hardest thing for me was being away from my “home” – my community, my friends, and my family.
Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE to travel and feel so blessed that we are able to spend this time traveling in the RV. But I love where we live – the community, the beach, the small town vibe – I’m just completely in love with this place. And I miss having my regular groups of friends around – happy hours, book club, girls’ lunches, etc. I feel like I’ve just gotten back in the groove of things and now it’s time to leave again. And of course I very much miss seeing my family in Georgia. Even though I don’t see them as regularly, it’s harder being a whole country away than it is just being a few hours away. So as we get ready to leave again, I’m a little homesick before we’ve even left.
But we’ve got some exciting stuff planned for this trip! One of the areas we had to skip last year was Southern Utah, because temperatures were soaring to well over 100 degrees when we were in the area. We also had to rush through the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, and completely skip Glacier National Park, because we were on a schedule to get to Oregon in time for my brother’s wedding. So all of those places are at the top of our list. And we’ve got a special return trip to Oregon planned – I have a new little niece arriving in April, and I can’t wait to meet her.
A couple of weeks ago we made a trip to Red Bay, AL – home of Tiffin Motorhomes – to get a few little kinks worked out on the RV. She’s now in tip-top shape and ready to roll! We’ll be at the beach another week or so, and then our first stop will be the FMCA Rally in Perry, GA. This will be our first rally as RV owners, and we’re extra excited about it because we’ll be going with our good friends Nancy & Betsy. From there we’ll spend several days in Georgia visiting both of our families, and then in April, we’ll set our course due west.
See you on the road!
Let us know how the rally is! I’ve never been to an official FMCA one either.
I will definitely blog about it – should be interesting!!
A few of those places are on our list for this spring/summer. Hoping we will be crossing paths somewhere awesome!
Lynn, would love it if we could cross paths. I’ll get in touch as we start getting closer and we’ll see if we can meet up!
Guess the grass is always greener. I can’t wait to go, again. No place like the west, to me. And just think, you won’t have to suffer through Florida heat. Don’t miss Idaho when you’re out there in the part of the country I love.
Oops…should have signed wacadoodle – hobopals, jack b nimble or nancy! LOL
Yes, leaving the Florida heat in the summer is a definite plus – I just wasn’t planning on missing the nice temperatures in the spring also! We had to go through Idaho pretty quickly last year because of the heat – hopefully we will time it better this time around!
So glad you are coming to Perry. We have already started stocking the wine in the RV. Hope it lasts until we get there.
Better stock up! We will be loaded down with all our wine from CA – we should have plenty!!
Yay! So happy you’re going back out on the road! Sounds like you have some fun places planned this time around. Hope to see you out there 🙂
Yes, Amanda I really hope we can meet up again somewhere!
